Ministry of Education confirms disbursement of graduate allowances to teachers has begun

The Ministry of Education has announced that the disbursement of graduate allowances to teachers has begun.

This follows the intervention of Education Minister Dr.  Dana Morris Dixon.

The Education Ministry sad, as of Tuesday, teachers in bursar-paid schools in Regions 1, 3, and 4 had received their graduate allowances.

Payments for teachers in all other bursar-paid schools will be processed today, the Ministry said.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Kasan Troupe, said schools in Regions 1, 2, and 4 that are paid by the central ministry will also receive their graduate allowances today, adding that all payments be completed by Friday.

The Jamaica Teachers Association on Monday disclosed that about two thousand teachers had not receive their graduate allowances this month, despite assurances that a circular from the Finance Ministry indicating that the payment would cease, would not be acted on.
