The St. James Police are reporting that more than 30 suspects, believed to be linked to criminal syndicates operating in Western Jamaica and other parts of the island, have been captured over the last week under its anti-crime initiative dubbed Operation Endgame.
Operation Endgame was launched on October 1 across the parish, targeting major gangs and individuals wanted from murders and shootings in St. James.
Giving an update on the anti-crime initiative, Superintendent in charge of operations, Linroy Edwards, disclosed on Monday that more than 30 people have been arrested for robberies, larceny, being in possession of prohibited weapons, ammunition, dangerous drugs and sexual assault since last week.
A woman, said to be the leader of a criminal gang, was captured on Sunday.
The female, who goes by the alias 'Toots', was captured during an operation at Dome Lane in Montego Bay.
Superintendent Edwards told Radio Jamaica News that six other men allegedly linked to a robbery syndicate were also arrested in the operation at Dome Lane.
The suspects were being sought in connection with two robberies in Montego Bay on the weekend.
A Toyota Axio reportedly used in the robberies was seized as well as several assorted rounds of ammunition, ski masks and several items including cellular phones that were suspected to have been stolen earlier on Sunday.
On Saturday, about 2:50 a.m., a motor car with three men aboard was intercepted by the police along the Jimmy Cliff Boulevard.
An electronic device that is used in the theft of motor vehicles was found in the vehicle.
The men, who are from St. Catherine, St. Ann and St. James, are suspected to have been involved in a major car stealing syndicate that is operating island-wide.
An illegal gun was seized Monday morning along Barrett Town main road as the cops intensify their operational activities.
Superintendent Edwards said the police are determined to make St. James one of the safest parishes on the island.
