Motorists concerned about flooding on sections of South Coast Highway

Motorists in St. Thomas have raised concerns about the impact of recent and current weather systems on sections of the Southern Coastal Highway.

According to the motorists, areas such as Swamp Road in Port Morant, Bowden main road, and the Hordley main road have had severe flooding, despite being recently paved.

The motorists believe the roadways should have been elevated and fitted with culverts to allow floodwater to pass beneath the surface, rather than flowing across the roads.

Kirk Brown, President of the Eastern St. Thomas Taxi Association, is urging the authorities to consider making adjustments to the road network to better channel water away from the roads.

"What we have noticed is that within the Cotton Tree area in Port Morant, they have lift the road because there was flooding in the area previously with other rainfall, and I see that that has been solved with the road that has been lift and the culvert that catch the water and send it to the sea. So we are grateful fi the new road improvement coming into this parish and we are really looking forward to see or reaching out to China Harbour for them to do something about those areas that have been flooded now, because at this point, it has affected motorists, especially those coming from Portland and who from St. Thomas coming to Portland cannot cross it," Mr. Brown appealed.
