Member of Parliament for St. Andrew Western, Anthony Hylton, has called for the Andrew Holness led administration to pay serious attention to the Sandy Gully, the largest gully on the island.

Making his contribution to the Constituency Debate in the House of Representatives, on Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Hylton warned that the poor state of the gully poses a threat to communities in St. Andrew and the heavily used bridge along Spanish Town Road.

"Sandy Gully, built in the 1960s, is the largest drainage channel in Kingston and St. Andrew. It's walls and floor were badly damaged by Hurricane Beryl more than two years ago and the technical authorities have acknowledged that it needs urgent rehabilitation," Mr. Hylton outlined.

"Who cleans a sloping gully from the top and leaves the bottom, the very section that carries the water to the water to the sea, blocked by a forest, broken walls and a damaged floor? Sandy Gully must be properly and completely cleaned from the bridge to the sea, and its walls and floor repaired before the walls collapse and, worse still, before we lose the bridge itself, and with it the lives of those who live on or near its bank, like those in Waterhouse and Seaview Gardens," the MP appealed.
