Member of Parliament for St. Catherine South Fitz Jackson says he is receiving increased complaints from motorists about traffic pile-up on the Portmore leg of Highway 2000 since the opening of the Chesterfield Drive/Spanish Town Road Bypass.

In an interview with RJR News, Mr. Jackson said motorists have been experiencing lengthy delays going through the toll booths.

He said the authorities have poorly handled the issues arising from the road construction projects in the Corporate Area.

"It indicate (sic) that careful planning and traffic management was never considered when the government sought to mitigate the unplanned and unorganised development of this Portia Simpson Miller Square," he contended, adding that other MPs in the area have reported similar complaints from their constituents.

Mr. Jackson argued that the situation is a disaster risk, especially in the case of an emergency.

"The impact of this irresponsible behaviour is of colossal quantity and I really call upon the government to be serious and to do something without undue delay," he urged.
