Murders down 42% overall despite 23 homicides last week

 
Jamaica last week recorded just over 20 murders, a deviation from the single-digit homicide figures recorded over recent weeks. 
 
The police's latest serious crime statistics revealed 23 murders recorded over the period August 23-30. 
 
But the 459 homicides recorded up to August 30 represent a 42?cline over last year's figures. 
 
Eleven homicides were recorded over two days between last week Tuesday and Thursday morning. 
 
Sixteen of the 19 police divisions have recorded reductions in murders when compared to last year.
 
Major crime is down 16%.
