A supervisor at
the National Commercial Bank (NCB) who is accused of stealing nearly $5 million
from the institution, is scheduled to appear in the Half-Way-Tree Criminal
Court Tuesday to answer to fraud and larceny charges.
Rajesh Sujanani, 30, who is attached the NCB's New Kingston Branch, was charged following investigations into the illegal withdrawals of millions of dollars from the accounts of several NCB customers.
Investigators reported that between May and December last year, Mr. Sujanani allegedly made more than 50 unauthorised withdrawals.
The police were called in late last year after the bank's management discovered the illegal activities.
An audit revealed that US$17,000 and more than J$3 million had been withdrawn from various accounts.
Mr. Sujanani was taken into custody and charged on January 2.
He was offered $500,000 station bail.
Another charged for stealing the bank's money
Meanwhile, another NCB employee has also been charged for stealing funds from the financial institution.
Kemisha Francis, 21, who is attached to NCB's Capital Market Limited, is accused of manipulating the system to steal a little over $1 million.
Ms Francis was arrested on December 31 after the bank discovered the racket and called in the Fraud Squad.
She was charged and later released on $400,000 station bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, January 16.
