A team from the Ministry of Education is to visit the New Hope Primary School to offer counselling following the death of two students in a fire at their home on Thursday.

The fire in Culloden, Whitehouse, Westmoreland was reportedly caused by a lit candle.

The boys have been identified as Jamar Reid and Romaine Powell.

Erica Cooke-Murdock, Principal of New Hope Primary, says the entire school community is reeling from the deaths of the two students.

"We are here to give support to the family members. We regret that sometimes our children are exposed to situations that cause them to come to harm - at this time it's fatal. We just pray for God's keeping, God's comfort during this time. The teachers at school who are responsible for these students, their form teachers, are also grieving. The children in their classes are also grieving. But I know that the Ministry of Education Region 4 is aware and they will be sending out their team to come and give us support at the institution," she said.
