OCG finshes probe into SportsMax

The Office of the Contractor General (OCG) has finished its probe into alleged irregularities surrounding a proposal by cable company SportsMax.

The probe surrounding the supply of satellite services for simulcast racing from South Africa and the United Kingdom to Caymanas Track Limited.

Copies of the OCG's 187 page report were dispatched to Minister without portfolio in the Finance Ministry, Senator Don Wehby, General Manager and acting CEO of Caymanas Track Limited, Randall South, and Financial Secretary, Sharon Crooks.

The Contractor General has also sent copies to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the President of the Senate and the Clerk to the Houses.

The OCG noted that the Contractor General Act requires the Speaker and the President to have the Report tabled in both Houses of Parliament ‘as soon as possible'.

While the details of the report have not been made public, the release sounded an ominous note that formal notices of the results of the investigation will be dispatched to persons whom the Report may adversely affect.

The OCG's Investigation was formally initiated in July last year following an article that prompted the allegations about irregularities in the contract and accusations of conflict of interest.

The media reports raised concerns about how the SportsMax deal was made.

The investigation sought to determine whether the satellite services were procured in compliance with the Government's Procurement Guidelines.
