The girlfriend of the deceased
The relatives of a man are demanding justice after he was fatally shot during a police operation in Old Harbour, St. Catherine on Tuesday morning.
It is reported that about 8 o'clock, the police entered Bowers District and went to the residence of 23-year-old Shaquille Johnson, where he lived with his child's mother.
His girlfriend says the police pulled Mr. Johnson from the house and physically assaulted him.
She says he was then shot and a firearm placed at the scene.
"Bout two jeep a dem come and a haul and pull him...and a kick him up and a box him and a lick him pon eh grung. So dem seh me fi come out...and den dem draw mi out and a kick mi.... So as dem push mi out, dem shoot him. Inna him head dem shoot him. Mi see. And den dem put down one gun an seh, 'Yeah man, see eh gun yah,'" she alleged.
She told Radio Jamaica News that her cell phone, which she was using at the time of the incident, was confiscated by the police.
Mr. Johnson's brother and residents of Bowers District have insisted that he was not involved in criminal activity and had never been arrested.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has said it is probing the fatal shooting.
