One Don Gang trial: Defence lawyer accuses cop of fabricating evidence to secure conviction

A retired detective inspector who investigated gang activities in the St. Catherine North Police Division was on Tuesday accused of fabricating evidence in the One Don case in order to secure a conviction.

Alexander Shaw, the attorney representing lone female accused Stephanie Christie, made the accusation during cross-examination as the One Don trial continued in the Home Circuit Court.

The court was told that the 30-year police veteran had only two convictions under his belt and was seeking to secure another by misleading the court.

Pointing to inconsistencies and omissions in the witness's statement and the evidence the former policeman gave in court, Mr. Shaw suggested that there was no indication that he visited the Horizon Adult Remand Centre on October 12, 2017.

The attorney told the witness that the visitors' book at the correctional facility did not have him recorded as a visitor on that date.

Replying to Mr. Shaw, the former policeman said he could not give an explanation because he had no control of the book.

Mr. Shaw also poked holes into the witness's testimony that one of the 33 accused on trial – Jason Brown, also known as City Puss – appeared before the St. Catherine Parish Court on October 21, 2017, after he was charged.

Mr. Shaw pointed out that the date was a Saturday.

Last week, the witness testified that he was able to identify a voice said to be that of City Puss.
