Operations in the main building at Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay St. James should begin on a phased basis early next year.

The St. James based facility has been undergoing a multi-billion dollar rehabilitation after health care workers began falling ill due to indoor air quality issues.

Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Christopher Tufton says work on the facility is continuing on schedule.

"Six months ago to now, I am a lot more confident in terms of the progress that is being made and we do expect over the next year to phase the reoccupation, if you will, of that facility," he said.

During his contribution to the 2022/23 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives in May, Dr. Tufton said work under Phases 1 and 2A of the rehabilitation programme had been completed at a cost of $1.3 billion.

Work under the $1.7 billion Phase 2B is underway and is aimed at fixing structural defects.
