Photojournalist Bryan Cummings dies, praised for professionalism, kindness

The Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) has expressed great sadness at the passing of respected photographer Bryan Cummings, who up to the time of his passing, was Photo Editor of the Jamaica Observer newspaper.

Mr Cummings died on Friday at age 56. He had been ailing for some time.

PAJ President George Davis, responding to his passing, said the media profession had lost a great story teller who spoke through his lens.

He added that Bryan Cummings was a gentleman who was always willing to offer guidance and advice to all especially young media practitioners.

Minister of Sport Olivia Grange, in paying tribute, recalled that Mr. Cummings was blessed with an eye that all great photographers possess.

She said his enduring legacy will be his work in sport where, through his photographs, he told the story of a glorious period in Jamaica sport, particularly track and field. 

The Sport Minister also remembered Mr. Cummings as a kind and personable man.

Bryan Cummings also provided readers with excellent coverage of Jamaican life in the areas of news and human interest photography which earned him many accolades at the annual National Journalism Awards staged by the Press Association of Jamaica.
