Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness and PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has called for Jamaica Labour Party supporters to protest on Monday against the planned demonstration of the People's National Party.
The People's National Party has indicated that it plans to protest at the National Heroes Circle at 8:30 Monday morning against the controversial appointment of Dennis Chung as the new Chief Technical Director of the Financial Investigations Division (FID).
The opposition says it is against the appointment because Mr. Chung has made public comments defending Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness, whose financial affairs have been referred to the FID for further investigation.
Speaking at a St. James West Central constituency conference on Sunday, Dr. Holness called the protest "manufactured rage" and "crisis that doesn't exist".
He called for JLP supporters to stand up against the opposition "and to protest against this hypocrisy".
"I want every Labourite, wherever you are, to protest in your workplace, to protest in the market, to protest wherever you are against the badminism of the PNP that is trying to bring down the progress of the people. Stand up Labourites! Stand up for justice, stand up for truth, stand up against the PNP! There was a time when the playbook of the PNP used to make Labourites fraid. Is a different Labourite you looking at today. Labourites are proud of their party," he declared.
PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell responded to the Prime Minister's call for counter protests, suggesting Dr. Holness was inciting trouble.
"Mr. Prime Minister, we are not afraid. We will not be intimidated by nobody, no day. Protest is the voice of an unheard people. The reason for protest is because the government is not listening to the people, and nobody nah go stop wi from fighting for that which is right," he maintained.
Dr. Campbell was speaking at a party meeting in Croft's Hill, Clarendon on Sunday night.
