PNP expels four members nominated as independent candidates

The People's National Party (PNP) has expelled four members after they were nominated as independent candidates for the February 26 local government election.

They are Lydia Richards for the Bensonton Division in St. Ann South Eastern, Lawton McKenzie for the Grange Hill Division in Westmoreland Western, Beverley Swaby for the Porus Division in Manchester Southern and Uphell Purcell for the York Town Division of Clarendon South Western.

The PNP says the decision is in alignment with Rule 263 of the party's constitution, which explicitly states, 'No person who has contested a seat in the House of Representatives or for any Municipality, or as a candidate in opposition to the People's National Party, may continue as a member of the Party.'
