PNP President Mark Golding
The parliamentary opposition will be staging another protest on Wednesday morning in Old Harbour, St. Catherine.
People's National Party President Mark Golding will be leading the protest at the Old Harbour Park Square at 8 a.m. Other senior leaders of the party will be among the delegation.
Dubbed, 'Peaceful Protest for Good Governance and Institutional Integrity', Mr. Golding will be highlighting what the party describes as the growing concerns of corruption, political interference and declining public trust across key sectors, including agriculture, health and governance.
The PNP said the protest forms part of its broader call to defend democratic principles, uphold transparency and resist the politicisation of the agencies meant to protect the public good.
In a video statement on Tuesday afternoon, PNP President Mark Golding again criticised the appointment of Dennis Chung as Chief Technical Director of the Financial Investigations Division (FID), describing it as an act of corruption.
Mr. Golding said his party will not ease up in highlighting acts of corruption in the government.
"So why does corruption matter? Well, look at the situation with the roads in the country. Look at the situation when you need to go to the hospital, how long you have to wait to get a bed if you need to be admitted; the equipment that is not working and you have to go to the private sector to pay a bag of money to get your diagnostic tests done. All of these things are as a result of resources being starved from key areas because of graft, 'tiefing' basically, and misappropriation of public resources," he argued.
The PNP president urged Jamaicans to "stand up for a Jamaica where the resources of the country are used for the benefit of the people and are not being sidetracked by bad governance".
The party recently led a protest at Heroes Circle in Kingston on June 2 against the appointment of Mr. Chung as head of the FID.
