The Police High Command is seeking to assure commuters who traverse Spanish Town and its environs that members of the security forces will be out in their numbers on Monday to ensure public safety.
Spanish Town has been tense since last week following the police fatal shooting of Othneil "Tickman" Lobban, reputed leader of the One Order Gang.
Acting Senior Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, commanding officer for the St Catherine North police division, told Radio Jamaica News on Sunday evening evening that calm had been restored and commuters will be able to freely conduct business in the town.
He's also urging the public not to be guided by false reports on social media about the security situation in the old capital.
In custody
In the meantime, four of seven men listed as Persons of Interest in connection with the flare-up of violence in Spanish Town, St Catherine, last week, are in police custody.
The men, Roniel Hope otherwise called "Ron," Tashwayne Balford, Kevaughn White, otherwise called "Twin," and Shamar, known also as "Boysie" surrendered to the police on the weekend.
This was confirmed by SSP Nicholson.
He also confirmed that last week's disturbance in Ellerslie Gardens was triggered by the arrest of Mr Hope, who was being sought for questioning by the police.
Mr Hope reportedly escaped from the custody of the cops when residents began throwing stones and firing shots at the police team.
Four police service vehicles were damaged in the unrest.
