The St. Elizabeth police say the man fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with the security forces in Luana on Wednesday is Jamar Stephens, otherwise called 'Tea Pot', a member of the Spring Park gang.

The gang is suspected of being involved in several crimes in the parish.

The police say operations were carried out at several locations in search of wanted men and persons of interest.

About midday, a team went to the Luana Phase 1 housing scheme, where Mr. Stephens was shot after he allegedly opened fire at the police.

An Armscor firearm containing three cartridges was reportedly taken from him.

Meanwhile, three persons of interest were arrested at separate locations - two in Grosmond and one in Southfield.

According to data from the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), 32 people have been fatally shot by members of the security forces since the start of the new year.
