Policeman among six charged in smishing scam targeting elderly NCB customer

A member of the Jamaica Constable Force is among six people who have been charged by the Major Organised and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) in connection with a multi-million dollar smishing scam, targeting an elderly customer of the National Commercial Bank.
 
The six were arrested on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week and charged on Friday.
 
They are 35-year-old Constable Marlando Rowe, of Four Paths, Clarendon; 34-year-old Glenecia Smith, a customer service representative of Old Hope Road, Kingston 6; 31-year-old Nemoy Rodney, an electrician of Miller Lane, Old Harbour Road, St. Catherine; and 27-year-old Shamar Cammock, a security guard of Manor View Drive, Kingston 8.
 
The other accused are 26-year-old Flow sales representative Kimmor Peters,  of Bucks Common, Clarendon; and 27-year-old Zowan Foster, a cashier of Top Hill district, Junction, St. Elizabeth.
 
They are all charged with breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act and the Larceny Act.
 
MOCA says Mr. Foster has also been charged with facilitating the use of criminal property.
 
The accused are to appear in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday.
 
They are suspected of being part of a wider cyber enabled crime group.
 
It's alleged that they defrauded a Chinese businesswoman of more than $13 million.
 
Fraud Squad detectives attached to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch on Friday arrested six other suspects involved in the smishing scam.
