Policeman’s murder case delayed in the Home Circuit Court

The murder case against police constable Lescene Edwards was delayed in the Home Circuit Court on Monday morning [June 13] after government prosecutors reported that they were reviewing the case.

As a result the matter has been removed from the trial list and placed back on the mention list.

The policeman was charged with murder in connection with the September 2003 death of his girlfriend Aldonna Harris-Vasquez.

Mrs. Harris-Vasquez was fatally shot at her Pembrook Hall residence in St. Andrew.

In his defence, the Constable told investigators he was asleep at the house when he was awakened by an explosion.

Constable Edwards told investigators he found Mrs. Harris-Vasquez dead in the bathroom with his service pistol beside her along with a suicide note.

However following investigations, Mr. Edwards was charged with murder.

Investigators said the evidence unearthed did not match the suicide theory as there was no gunpowder residue on Mrs. Harris Valquez' hands.

Handwriting experts also deemed that the suicide note was not written by her.

The matter is scheduled for mention on July 8.

On that date the prosecutors are expected to tell the court whether they are proceeding with the matter.
