Post-mortem on Judge Ruth Lawrence conducted

The Major Investigations Division (MID) and the Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) have taken over the investigation into the death of parish court judge for Trelawny, Ruth Lawrence.

This was disclosed on Thursday by Deputy Commander for the CIB, Senior Superintendent Derrick Champagnie.

SSP Champagnie told Radio Jamaica News that a post-mortem was scheduled for Thursday to determine the cause of death.

He said the police will determine their next course of action following the post-mortem exercise.

The high command had ordered an investigation into the circumstances which led to the death of Judge Lawrence.

The judge is suspected to have ingested poison at her home in Coral Springs Village early Tuesday morning. The 59-year-old jurist was reportedly transported to Falmouth Hospital by her spouse, where she was pronounced dead sometime after 7 p.m.

The death of the judge has sparked a shock in the judiciary, with the Chief Justice among those expressing sadness at her passing.
