Prime Minister urging Jamaicans to adopt positive mindset at Christmas

Prime Minister Andrew Holness is urging Jamaicans to adopt a positive mindset as they reflect on 2024 and prepare to face a new year.

In his Christmas Day message, the Prime Minister sought to remind citizens that despite their personal struggles, they have been spared to celebrate another Christmas with family and friends.

Dr Holness is also encouraging safe driving as people move about to visit loved ones and partake in the Christmas festivities, noting that "Every Christmas we see a spike in road fatalities."

"Take it easy on the road," he therefore urged.

With regard to the poor state of most roads across the island, rising from significant rainfall over recent months, he reiterated he had directed the National Works Agency to "patch as many roads as possible throughout the Christmas season to ensure that traffic is not unduly delayed on our main road network for the New Year."

He also sought to assure those whose houses are in need of roof repairs, arising from the impact of Hurricane Beryl last July could still receive assistance from the government.

"While we will not be able to assist every  private dwelling, we will be examining ways in which we can quickly assist those households most in need of roofing repairs," he pledged.
