Reclassification dispute at PICA referred to Ministry of Finance

NWU General-Secretary Granville Valentine

A letter has been sent to the Ministry of Finance & The Public Service requesting an urgent meeting to resolve issues with the reclassification exercise at the Passport Immigration & Citizenship Agency.

It was sent by a steering committee, following a meeting on Monday, involving the National Workers Union,  the management, and worker representatives.

The PICA employees are restive over the reclassification exercise after receiving their October salary.

Under the reclassification, conducted by the Finance Ministry, junior and senior workers in various departments have been lumped together and placed in the same band, regardless of qualification and tenure.

NWU General Secretary Granville Valentine said the steering committee proposed several dates for the meeting with the finance ministry for the matter to be resolved.
