Reconstruction work is ongoing at Holmwood Technical High School in Manchester, as the new school year gets underway.

Sections of the school's campus, including technical department, were severely damaged by Hurricane Melissa late last year.

Principal Hydran McKusky said the reconstruction is not expected to disrupt teaching and learning.

He has assured parents that safety mmeasures are in place to protect the school's 1,600 students and staff, particularly as some areas remain under construction.

Meanwhile, State Minister in the Ministry of Education, Rhoda Moy Crawford, said nearly $1 billion has been spent to support the school's recovery.

The state minister and principal say the reconstruction is about 80 per cent complete and is expected to be finished within a week.
