The Kingston Western Police have laid charges against a reputed gang leader who was deported to the island last week.

Thirty-three-year-old Rasheim Brown, otherwise called 'Shem', the reputed leader of the Golden Heights Gang in West Kingston has been charged in connection with a deadly attack on a house in Upper West Street in December 2023 in which a man was killed in view of his two young sons.

The victim was identified as 55-year-old Mark McKenzie.

His sons, ages 4 and 8, were seriously wounded in the attack.

Investigators had reported that Mr. McKenzie and his boys were asleep sometime after 2 a.m., when the accused and his cronies entered the dwelling and shot them.

Assistant Commissioner Michael Phipps, head of the Area 4 Police, told Radio Jamaica News that Mr. Brown, who fled the island following the incident, is under investigation in connection with other serious crimes committed in the Kingston Western Police Division.

"This man appeared on our wanted person listing since 2024. He, however, managed to flee Jamaica and made his way illegally into the United States of America. However, he was found and deported to Jamaica on Thursday the 30th of January this year, and has since been charged with the offences of murder, two counts of wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and making use of a firearm to commit a felony," ACP Phipps disclosed.

He said Mr. Brown is facing additional charges under the anti-gang legislation.

Meanwhile, the Police High Command has said it is preparing case files for several fugitives who fled the island via the Mexico/US border.

The move comes after the Trump Administration declared that illegal migrants and violent criminals will be deported under its mass deportation policy.
