Reputed gang leader killed during police operation in East Kingston

 
The reputed leader of a high profile criminal organisation in East Kingston was fatally shot during a police operation in Rollington Town on Thursday afternoon. 
 
He has been identified as 64-year-old Christopher Murray, otherwise called 'Chris' or 'Muslim', the reputed leader of the Top Burgher Gully gang. 
 
The police say he was killed during an exchange of gunfire with a police team at 4 Burgher Avenue, Rollington Town. 
 
Investigators reported that about 6 o'clock, a special police team went into the area in search of firearms. 
 
It's reported that the cops went to a premises occupied by Murray. 
 
It's further alleged that the cops knocked on his door, and he immediately opened fire on them. The fire was returned and he was shot. 
 
The cops say a 0.38 revolver loaded with four live rounds, and two spent casings were taken from him. 
 
He was assisted to Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 
 
The police psychomans said Mr. Murray was deported from the United States in 2021, after serving over 30 years in prison for murder.
 
Murray was charged for murder in 1992 in the USA and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
 
Since his return, he assumed leadership of the area and was allegedly involved in arming the community with high-powered weapons.
 
Murray was the brother of the late leader of the Burgher Gully gang, Donovan Murray, otherwise called 'Pepsi'.
 
Assistant Commissioner Michael Phipps, head of the Area 4 Police, said Thursday's operation is part of the high command's strategy to target criminal gangs and their leadership. 
 
He said the Area 4 Police have been conducting a series of operations in the Corporate Area over the last few weeks, targeting gangs and capturing wanted fugitives. 
 
More than 200 illegal guns and 6,000 rounds of ammunition have been seized in Area 4 since the start of the year.
