Retirement Primary gets CCTV cameras, renews call for perimeter fence

Herman Samuels, chairman of the school board

Administrators at Retirement Primary in St. Elizabeth say the installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras has enhanced the level of security at the institution.

However, they are hopeful that a much needed perimeter fence will be erected soon.

Herman Samuels, chairman of the school board, says he was informed at a recent meeting that the contract for the construction of the fence will be re-tendered.

Mr. Samuels says there was some confusion as the matter should have been treated as an emergency, but was instead listed among other schools that are awaiting similar development.

"We are yet to get the fencing which we are really in need of. Now that is a part of it that will protect any intruders from coming on the ground. But for the camera, we are very, very happy for that, and we want to highlight it so that you know that something is going on at the Retirement Primary School," he said.

The issue of fencing for the school arose following an attack on a former principal of the school on the compound by an intruder in 2022.
