The Crime Monitoring & Oversight Committee [CMOC] says the security forces are bracing for a spike in murders as gang members are expected to engage in deadly battles to fill the leadership vacuum within their criminal syndicates.

George Overton, head of CMOC, explaining that 70-per cent of murders in Jamaica are due to gang-related conflicts, said the security forces have already dismantled 185 gangs.

Overton, speaking Friday on The Morning Agenda, on Power 106FM, added that the security forces are keeping a close eye on St. Catherine to prevent a flare-up of violence in the parish following last month's police fatal shooting of reputed One Order gang leader Othneil 'Thickman' Lobban.
