A 36 year-old security guard was taken into custody on the weekend in connection with the seizure of ammunition, suspected firearm components, and forged firearm documents during a police operation in Highgate, St. Mary.
The police report that about 6:00 p.m., on Saturday, officers were carrying out enforcement activities in the town centre when they observed a man with what appeared to be a firearm, concealed in his waistband.
The man was accosted, and he reportedly told the police that he was a licensed firearm holder and presented what appeared to be a Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) identification card.
The security guard was subsequently disarmed and taken to the Highgate Police Station, where an examination of the weapon revealed that it was an imitation firearm, fitted with a magazine containing nine 9mm rounds of ammunition.
The police says checks are being made to determine whether the FLA identification card is fake.
A subsequent search of premises occupied by the accused in Frazerwood, Highgate, resulted in the recovery of a homemade firearm, a second imitation firearm, five 9mm pistol magazines, two additional 9mm rounds, several spent casings and assorted firearm parts and components, including pistol barrels.
Several suspected fraudulent FLA firearm licences and a firearm user's permit were also recovered, along with firearm-related tools and accessories and a laptop computer suspected to have been used in the production of fraudulent documents.
