Shaw resigns from Shadow Cabinet

Audley Shaw, the man who lost Sunday’s Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) leadership election, has resigned from the Shadow cabinet.
Mr. Shaw handed in his resignation Monday morning after he lost the race to unseat the leader of the party Andrew Holness. In his brief letter he again congratulated Mr. Holness on his victory.
Mr. Shaw said, “In the circumstances, I hereby tender my resignation as Shadow Minister of Finance, Planning, Growth and Economic Development, in order to give you a free hand to select a team in whom you have confidence going forward.”
He concluded his letter saying: “May God guide you in all your undertakings.”

Chuck to tender resignation by noon today

And some members of Team Shaw are to resign from the Shadow Cabinet. Spokesman on National Security, Delroy Chuck, will tender his resignation. He told RJR News that his resignation letter will be submitted by noon Monday.

Tufton steps away

In the meantime, Dr. Christopher Tufton, Opposition Spokesman on Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Investment, is also stepping away from the Shadow Cabinet. He said this will give Mr. Holness a clear hand to select a fresh slate of  Shadow spokespersons.

Robertson reserves comment

James Robertson, one of the last high-profile Labourites to publicly declare their support for Mr. Shaw, has accepted the results of the election, but is reserving comment on his future in the JLP.
Mr. Robertson, who is chairman of Area Council Two, argued that the choice of  the delegates has to be accepted.

Mr. Robertson is also not commenting on his future, stating only that he will first be doing some consultations.
