Sir Anthony Smellie appointed a judge of Judicial Committee of the Privy Council

Former Chief Justice of the Cayman Islands, Sir Anthony Smellie, a Jamaican, has been appointed a judge of the Judicial Committee of the UK based Privy Council.
 
Sir Anthony's appointment took effect on February 5.
 
The former Caymanian Chief Justice served in various roles in Jamaica's justice system, including Crown Counsel and Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions from 1977 to 1983.
 
He then accepted an appointment as Principal Crown Counsel for the Cayman Islands where he relocated in 1983. 
 
There he served as Solicitor-General, acting Attorney General, Judge of the Grand Court and Chief Justice.
