Mother of man fatally shot by police at Park Lane off Red Hills Road in St. Andrew

Police in the St. Andrew North Division are reportedly on high alert following Wednesday morning's fatal shooting of a suspected member of the Park Lane gang in the community located off Red Hills Road in St. Andrew.

The threat was reportedly issued by gangsters in the area.

The police say 31-year-old Fernando Spence, otherwise called 'Kemo', was killed during an alleged confrontation.

It is reported at about 5 a.m., a team carried out an operation in Park Lane and premises occupied by Mr. Spence.

The police say he pointed a firearm at the team, which took evasive action and opened fire hitting him.

Mr. Spence was pronounced dead at hospital.

A firearm and ammunition were taken from him, but the mother of Mr. Spence is questioning the actions of the police.

She told Radio Jamaica News that her son was charged with an offence and was reporting to the Half Way Tree police.

"Him a report three day a week up deh and di police dem know him. Yesterday, wid di dispute wid him an him cousin, me go up dere and him up dere and dem let him go and come kill him dis morning. Why dem do dat?.... Dem kill him already, why put gun pon him? Just talk di truth. Him a somebody child like how dem a somebody child," she bemoaned.
