Senior Superintendent of Police Hopton Nicholson, Commanding Officer for the St. Catherine North Division
The St. Catherine North Police Division said it has recovered 52 firearms this year compared to 43 over the same period last year.
Commanding Officer, Senior Superintendent of Police Hopton Nicholson, said two men were recently charged with possession of prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition in two separate incidents.
SSP Nicholson said one of the men was the subject of investigations in two police divisions.
He said the police were responding to a robbery in another section of the parish on Sunday when they intercepted the vehicle the suspect was travelling in.
"The team intercepted a motor car in the Lauriston community in Spanish Town. The motor car was searched in the presence of the driver and an illegal firearm was seized. This man is also the subject of investigation in other police jurisdictions to include St. Andrew South and St. Catherine South," he disclosed.
SSP Nicholson said a 9mm pistol and three live rounds were recovered during a targeted operation in Ewarton recently.
Truck driver Kirk Thompson, 45, was subsequently arrested and charged.
