A 23-year-old inmate has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing of another prisoner at the Annotto Bay Police Station lock-up in St. Mary.
The accused is Nolando Atkinson, a construction work of Boscobel View in the parish.
He was charged on Monday in connection with the death of 34-year-old inmate, Eraldo Francis, a contractor of Tremolsworth, Highgate, St. Mary.
According to reports from the Port Maria Police, shortly after midday on Saturday, December 6, a disturbance broke out among inmates housed at the lock-up.
Police intervened to restore order, after which Francis was discovered unresponsive with stab wounds to the chest.
He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation was subsequently launched and Atkinson was later implicated based on statements collected by investigators.
He was formally charged following a question-and-answer interview on Sunday.
