The Ministry of Transport has issued a request for submissions to proposed toll rates for the May Pen to Williamsfield leg of Highway 2000.

This leg referred to as Phase 1C was opened in September 2023, and will be operated and maintained by TransJam Highway until November 20, 2036.

In a notice posted on Instagram earlier this month, TransJam Highway said the previously announced December 1 start date for it to take over operation of the toll road had been revised.

It said a new date would be communicated once all arrangements are finalised.

The Ministry of Energy, Transport and Telecommunications has signalled that tolls are to be introduced on the May Pen to Williamsfield section of the highway.

In a notice issued to the public and interest groups on Tuesday, the ministry said the move follows an application by the concessionaire under Section 23 of the Toll Roads Act.

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has indicated his intention to make an order allowing for the levy of tolls on that stretch of roadway.

The proposed rates for motorists travelling from May Pen to Williamsfield are as follows:

For Class One vehicles, the cost will be $480; Class Two, $720; and Class Three vehicles, $1,400.

For motorists using the Toll Gate access ramp, the proposed rates are $240 for Class One vehicles; $360 for Class Two and $700 for Class Three vehicles.

Interested persons may send written submissions concerning the proposed rates to the Toll Authority within four days of the publication of this notice.
