The prime suspect who was being sought in connection with last month's double killing of an inDrive operator and a student of the Portmore Community College along Upper Mall Road in St. Andrew was captured during a major police operation on Tuesday morning in the St. Andrew South Division.
The police say four illegal firearms including an AR-15 rifle were seized in the operation.
It reported that about 11 o'clock Tuesday morning, a team of officers from the St. Andrew South Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB), supported by personnel from the division, conducted an intelligence-driven operation at a premises on Cheetwood Avenue, Kingston 20.
During the operation, officers executed a search warrant.
A search of a room occupied by the father of the suspect led to the discovery of one AR-15-style rifle, three pistols and 100 assorted rounds of ammunition concealed inside a black and yellow plastic storage container under a bed.
The ammunition seized comprised 91 rounds of 5.56 calibre ammunition and nine rounds of 7.62 calibre. The firearms and ammunition were seized and the father taken into custody.
In a follow-up operation at the same location, officers apprehended the suspect who was being sought in connection with the double murder investigation which occurred along Upper Mall Road last month. He was also taken to the Hunts Bay CIB where investigations are continuing.
On July 7, 21-year-old student Brianna Taylor and 22-year-old Michael Anglin, an inDrive operator of Walkway, Braeton Phase 4, Portmore, were shot and killed in an attack by a gunman along Upper Mall Road in St. Andrew. Mr. Anglin drove into the community to deliver a package when the suspect opened gun fire on the vehicle.
A third occupant of the vehicle - a 19-year-old man escaped injury.
