Councillor-elect for the Bamboo division in St. Ann, Sydney Stewart, is again throwing his hat in the ring to become the Mayor of St. Ann's Bay after the Jamaica Labour Party secured victory in more divisions than the opposition in the parish.

Mr. Stewart, who has retained the division for the JLP and is the incumbent Mayor of St. Ann's Bay, affirmed that his prediction that the ruling party would take 11 divisions, was accurate.

The People's National Party secured the remaining five.

Mr. Stewart said there are several improvements to be made across St. Ann going forward.

"Our plan of action going forward, we need now to concentrate on some of the primaries. The people are complaining about really light and water, which significantly affect them, and I think, starting now, we need to place some emphasis on the repairing some of those interior roads that are in bad condition," he noted.

He said there have been persistent efforts to address bad roads, the lack of proper street lighting and inadequate water supply in the past, but these efforts will be intensified.

Still, Mr. Stewart said he is "willing and ready" to support whomever is appointed to serve as Mayor.

"The mayor will develop an idea, but it requires collective participation for it to go through. It requires that level of cooperation. It requires all of us agreeing, it requires all of us making our point, which is an opinion, and that we will come out to the right solution," he said.
