Ten people including a 90-year-old woman are homeless after fire destroyed six homes at 41 and a half Red Hills Road, Cassia Park in St. Andrew on Thursday morning.

Seventeen firefighters from the Half Way Tree, York Park and Trench Town fire stations fought the blaze, which started about 10 o'clock.

Radio Jamaica News spoke with the People's National Party caretaker candidate for the area, Dennis Gordon, who said assistance will be provided to the affected residents.

"Based on what I am seeing, it's a devastation. So immediately, having discussion with the residents who are impacted, they want to build back. So I approved $1 million worth of material at Dunn's, so they can start to go and collect those materials to start rebuilding. I suspect that some of them would have lost everything, so I leave another $100,000 for them to buy some food. I've already reached out to the social security people to come and see what they can do. But from my own grant, I've given them $1.1 million and I will continue to monitor, and whatever else I can do, I will do it," he said.

Two people were reportedly injured in the fire.
