The Bahamas: Former MP Don Saunders gunned down

Police Commissioner in The Bahamas, Clayton Fernander, says armed robbery was the motive behind the killing of former Member of Parliament Don Saunders last night, though no specific target was identified.

Mr Saunders was also a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly. He was reportedly gunned down near a bar, becoming the 35th murder victim of the year.

He is survived by his wife and two children.

Prime Minister Phillip Davis is among those who have paid tribute to the former lawmaker's passing.
