The Royal Bahamas Defence Force is reporting an increase in the number of Haitian migrants intercepted in Bahamian waters.
122 Haitians were picked up on the weekend off Ragged Island, bringing the total number of migrants picked up in Bahamian waters over the past two weeks to 369.
According to the Bahamas Defence Force, officers received a tip about the migrants from local fishermen.
Minister of National Security Wayne Munroe told reporters that the migrants have to be processed by immigration authorities, who will determine how and when they will be repatriated to Haiti.
The government repatriated 263 Haitians last week.
It came after Amnesty International called for countries to suspend repatriations to Haiti due to increased violence in the beleaguered Caribbean nation.
