Three men fatally shot by police in Hanover

Three men were fatally shot during a reported confrontation with the police in Hanover on Wednesday.

A fourth suspect is being sought.

One of the deceased has been identified as Clive Lawson, otherwise called 'Greedy' of Mount Salem, St. James.

The police say two illegal firearms were seized during the incident.

Superintendent Carlos Russell, Operations Officer for the Area One Police, says the men were travelling in a Toyota Voxy motor car along the Mosquito Cove main road about 5:35 p.m. when they were signalled to stop by members of the Fugitive Apprehension Team.

He says the vehicle pulled over and four men alighted with guns and allegedly fired at the police team.

This led to a shootout during which three of the men were shot and the fourth escaped.

The three wounded men were taken to Noel Holmes Hospital in Hanover where they were pronounced dead.

Superintendent Russell says Mr. Lawson was the leader of a gang based in Mount Salem, St. James and was on the police radar for his involvement in criminal activities.

"[He] was a suspect in a recent invasion of Campbell Lane in St. James in which one man was shot and killed and several houses fired on," said the superintendent, who warned that "The police in Area One will continue to target wanted persons and violence producers in this area, and we are letting all the criminals in this space know that we will leave no stones unturned in finding them."
