Top travel award for JA’s cruise industry

Jamaica's cruise industry has once again received high honours at the World Travel Awards.

At the 2008 staging of the awards in the Turks and Caicos Islands Tuesday night, Jamaica's cruise industry was named World's Leading Cruise Destination for the third consecutive year.

The island also won the award for the Caribbean's Leading Cruise Destination, which it has done every year since 2005.

In announcing the awards, Graham Cooke President and Founder of the World Travel Awards, said Jamaica had established an excellent reputation as a cruise destination, with an outstanding variety of experiences for cruise guests.

Responding to the win, William Tatham Vice President for Cruise Shipping and Marina Operations at the Port Authority, said the awards were a testament to the intense commitment of all those who work in or support the cruise industry.

The Port Authority is responsible for marketing the island under the brand "Cruise Jamaica."
