Trial of constable in corruption case in St. Elizabeth set to resume on May 1

The trial of a female constable, charged with corruption in relation to a sexual assault case against another constable, is scheduled to continue on May 1, in the St Elizabeth Parish Court.

The trial, being held in camera, was adjourned on April 17 when Constable Lavern Hendricks appeared in Court.

She is charged with corruption and perverting the course of Justice.

The case arose out of an incident in which a 26 year old woman alleged that she was sexually assaulted and her bank card stolen by a policeman during a routine police operation.

It was reported that Constable Hendricks was the first responder on the scene.

Investigators alleged that she took steps to frustrate the investigation and offered money to the complainant to drop the case.

The other cop in the matter, Constable Alwayne Hill, is before the Home Circuit Court on several charges, including grievous sexual assault, corruptly soliciting, simple larceny and forcible abduction.
