A Trinidad and Tobago national drowned after a vehicle in which she was a passenger plunged into the Wag Water River in St Mary yesterday.
She has been identified as 31-year-old Shirnell Maxine Ettienne.
The police say Ms. Ettienne was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla Altis that was travelling on the Agualta Vale main road.
On reaching the vicinity of the Wag Water Bridge, about 10:30 a.m., the driver lost control of the vehicle which veered across the road and plunged into the river.
The occupants managed to exit the vehicle; however, Ms. Ettienne was swept away by the strong current.
Her body was recovered by a resident in the area.
Ms. Ettienne was pronounced dead at the Annotto Bay Hospital, while the other injured occupants of the car were treated.
The St. Mary Police are reminding motorists to exercise extreme caution when travelling on roadways, particularly in areas with sharp bends and during wet or hazardous conditions.
Drivers are also being urged to obey the speed limit, remain alert, and operate their vehicles in a manner that ensures the safety of all road users.
