T&T: Fact-finding probe launched into pay offered to Kartel, others for concert

Trinidad and Tobago's Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo has ordered a fact-finding investigation into the large sums of foreign exchange reportedly paid to artistes for the One Caribbean Music Festival.

The Trinidad Guardian reports that this comes after the negative fallout from Jamaican DJ Vybz Kartel and other foreign acts withdrawing from the event.

Reports said that Kartel received $950,000 of the promised $1.3 million before pulling out over alleged contractual breaches.

Other Jamaican acts, Sizzla Kalonji, Malie Don and Rvssian, as well as Ghanaian-American singer Moliy, also pulled out for similar reasons.

Minister Tancou says he is particularly concerned about the amount of foreign exchange reportedly involved, given Trinidad's ongoing currency issues and wants to ensure there's full transparency.

Meanwhile, Acting Police Commissioner Junior Benjamin says the matter could warrant a deeper look, especially since one of the promoters is facing a criminal charge.
