The Trinidad and Tobago Police force says the ongoing State of Emergency is reaping success.
Since its declaration on December 30, the police have arrested 360 people and carried out targeted raids resulting in the seizure of 22 firearms, 818 rounds of assorted ammunition, and an estimated 84.5 kilogrammes of drugs.
The police say of the 360 detainees, 40 are said to be linked to criminal gangs.
The high command of the Trinidad and Tobago police says it is intent on using the powers under the SOE to bring the fight to criminals.
Since the start of the year, four people have been murdered compared with 18 for the corresponding period last year.
In the meantime, the police say they are examining the implementation of a gun amnesty in accordance with the terms of the State of Emergency.
