Two firearms were seized and several people arrested on Thursday during a series of police operations in the St. Elizabeth Police Division.
This was disclosed by Superintendent Coleridge Minto, head of the division, who said the operations began at 3 a.m. and were conducted across town centres and several hotspot communities.
"We are currently in the Junction town centre conducting a VCP (vehicle check point). Right across the parish, a number of VCPs, targeted raids, roadblocks and other operational activities were done. At this time, 160 tickets have been issued, 11 motor vehicles seized, two motorcycles," Superintendent Minto disclosed.
In addition, he said one targeted raid was conducted in the Gutters area, where two firearms were recovered from a vehicle.
Seven people have been arrested.
"I want to assure the citizens of this parish that we will continue our operational activities to ensure that the parish remains a safe one and these operations will continue throughout the weekend," said the superintendent.
