Donald Trump announced on Saturday evening that the United States had bombed three nuclear sites in Iran, at Fordo, Natanz and Esfahan.
"We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. All planes are now outside of Iran air space," Trump wrote on his personal social media platform, Truth Social.
He added that a "full payload of bombs" were dropped on Fordo and all planes were on their way back to the US.
This action by the Trump administration had become more likely by the day after Israel initially launched an air attack against Iran's nuclear capability and its military leadership a week ago.
Trump had initially cautioned Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu against attacking Iran while the United States was engaging in negotiations with the Islamic state, but Netanyahu ignored him, saying it was imperative to attack degrade Iran's nuclear capability before it was too late.
Left in a position of indecisiveness, Trump eventually settled on joining Israel's attack, over the strong objections of some of key allies in his MAGA base.
