UPDATE: Two killed after small plane carrying hurricane relief to Jamaica crashes in Florida

Two people were killed after a small aircraft headed to Montego Bay, St. James to support Jamaica's Hurricane Melissa relief efforts crashed into a pond in a Florida neighbourhood on Monday morning.

The plane was seen plummeting into the pond in Coral Springs, a suburb near Fort Lauderdale.

Authorities say the Beechcraft King Air went down shortly after takeoff from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport about 10:15 a.m.

The turboprop plane appeared to clip the edge of the land while its nose slammed into the water. It did not hit any homes and no one on ground was injured.
