Member of Parliament for Portland Western Daryl Vaz has accused the People's National Party spokespersons of being opportunists and hypocrites in their criticism of controversial issues in public discourse.

He says beach access is the latest matter upon which the PNP has latched onto following a video message on social media from party president Mark Golding on Sunday.

In a post, Mr. Golding said the next PNP government will stand up for public beach access and protect what rightfully belongs to the people.

But speaking Sunday at the Clarendon South Eastern constituency conference, Mr. Vaz said he has identified the strategy of the PNP in its attempt to woo voters and has called for them to reject it.

"Every day, them get up, them read the newspaper, or them listen to the news media and them see what topic is becoming controversial. And when them do that now, them go on the platform or social media and say if the PNP form the next government, them going to do this, them going to do that," he pointed out.

"This morning, I saw a post from the Opposition Leader that say if the People's National Party become government, they are going to implement free beach access across Jamaica. And I had to respond in a post to send him a article where the company that he is a majority shareholder, advertising a beachside condominium. And you know what it say as part of what them selling and marketing? Private beach. They are a set of hypocrites and you must never allow them to take back hold of this country," Mr. Vaz asserted.
